THE SUITE: REGISTER KEY |
| Description |
My goal with this piece was to complete
an arrangement for full band that helped the clarinet section work on
thier upper register. I decided on a three-movement suite of tunes,
"The Rakes of Mallow" from Ireland, "The Blue Bells of Scotland" from
Scotland, and "The Coasts of High Barbary" from England. The
challenge was to have matching sections for the clarinets that had a lower
register melody in the beginning of the movement and then match it with
the exact same fingerings later with the register key in the upper range.
I also tried to pick tunes that would work on contrasting styles. Be
sure to point out to the clarinets that:
