"Two Songs for Peace" evokes hope for world peace. By using two rounds, one from the western tradition and one from the mid-eastern tradition, a melodic interest designed to motivate second year band students emerges. The three phrases of the traditional western "Dona Nobis Pacem" intertwine in the first half followed by a haunting, pleading alto saxophone solo which introduces the equally time-honored mid-eastern "Shalom Chaverim." The arrangement concludes with a beautiful choral setting of the opening theme.
