Throughout the history of popular music, songwriters have taken melodies from classical music and folk tunes and turned them into popular songs. Elvis took advantage of this practice for at least three of his number one hits, which are combined in this suite. “Wooden Heart” is taken from a German folk song called “Muss I Denn”; “Love Me Tender” comes from the folk song “Aura Lee”; and “It’s Now or Never” was originally the Italian folk song, “O Sole Mio” (O Sunshine of Mine).
